Application Programming Interfaces – more commonly known as APIs – are a hot topic in the lottery industry. But just what is an API and how can it improve lottery retail?
APIs are used every day in wide range of industries to make software-based systems work together seamlessly. A NASPL initiative is underway to establish a standard API for the lottery industry, making it possible for retailers to program their point-of-sale systems to sell lottery products regardless of the central gaming system provider. This would help to expand consumer access to lottery and open distribution to in-lane environments and new trade styles.
